The emperor
Franz Joseph I. visited Bad Ischl in over 60 summers!
Bad Ischl's
reputation as an imperial city has remained until today
as many things have stayed the same. Everywhere you go,
you are reminded of the times when Bad Ischl wrote
history. Bad Ischl was the emperor Franz Joseph's
summer residence from 1848 to 1914 where he also got
engaged to Elisabeth ("Sisi") in 1853 in what is today
the cities museum. From here he started World War I.
The
engagement present from his parents was the
"Kaiservilla" (Imperial Villa). A part of the
"Kaiservilla" is still used today by the emperor's great
grandson Mag. Habsburg. In the other part of the
Kaiservilla, one can visit and see how the emperor once
lived.
