Johann Strauss
In order to summarize the most magnificent years of the monarchy, there hardly could be a more fitting name than Johann Strauss, Son. He let his masterworks be influenced by the splendour and confusion of his era. The pulsating city life blended with the sounds of the crown lands to an exhilarating style, which gives rise to worldwide enthusiasm eve today.

Born in Vienna in 1825, Johann Strauss grew up in musical surroundings. His youth was overshadowed by the constant disputes with his father who wanted to prevent his musical career. As nineteen-year-old he made his debut with his own band. Although it was considered a sensation, it took years until his talent was recognised. After his father's death, he took over the musical leadership of the Strauss-orchestra. Later his brothers Joseph and Eduard joined him. Thus, the Vienna Waltz remained in the hands of the Strauss-dynasty.
